Ancient Hindu texts state that the Moon, or what they called Soma, was lit and nourished by the sun. Every night the planet Soma would rise and they saw it as a white clothed deity riding a three-wheeled chariot pulled by white horses. Soma was a medicinal deity and any medical concoction of the time was named Soma in his honor. Hindu texts also mention Soma as a ritual drink of great importance that extracted juice from a plant before distilling it. It was to be consumed by priests and the sacrificer before a ritual sacrifice providing a hallucinogenic effect.
The plant could be found in the mountainous areas of modern day India and Iran but its origins were believed to be from heaven being brought to Earth by an eagle. It was said that when the gods drank Soma the Moon would wane to be later reborn into a New Moon. Soma even had its own day, Somavara. We would know it today as Monday.
Our Soma can be drank on any day of the week and by anyone. If you are looking to connect to the gods or just want to taste the divine nectar of the gods, this brew is for you. It may be best enjoyed though after a long Somavara.
