There was a time when the healing of someone who had fallen ill could only be attributed to the work of the gods. In Ancient Greece, the goddess responsible for healing was called Panacea. Her work involved reviving the sick, or Apollo’s art, along with her four sisters/goddesses Hygieia (the goddess of universal health), Iaso (recuperation from illness), Aceso (the healing process) and Algæa (beauty and splendor). Panacea carried with her a potion that could cure any disease or malady. As such her name has remained in the modern lexicon as a solution to all problems.
